ABN Amro makes first battery storage investment

ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund is to make its first investment in battery energy storage via participation in a growth funding round for Berlin-based Colibri Energy, a provider of lithium-ion battery systems for vehicles in airport and industrial logistics.

Other investors in the funding round include Emerald Technology Ventures and the corporate venture fund of Nabtesco Corporation.

Colibri Energy manufactures  modular, low-maintenance lithium-ion battery packs for material handling and ground support equipment at airports. It pairs this with a software platform that gives operators and energy managers “visibility over their vehicles”.

Colibri Energy lithium batteries are found in 22 airports around the world, including Doha, Frankfurt and Istanbul.
