Authorities in Cape Town, South Africa have laid out plans for R1.2 billon ($65 million) of investment in the Steenbras Hydro Pumped Storage Scheme, as well as a total of R50 million ($2 million) of spending on battery storage.

The planned investments by the City of Cape Town are part of a wider proposed programme of spending, which will include allocations for solar and waste-to-energy projects.

The investment in the 160MW Steenbras Hydro Pump Station will be used to maintain and expand the plant over a nine-year period.
